How to apply

Follow these steps to apply for a Climate Smart Energy Savers rebate.

Step 1: Check your eligibility

Read the eligibility criteria to find out if you’re eligible for a standard or low-income rebate.

Only 1 rebate is available per household. Rebates paid cannot be higher than the total cost to purchase and install an eligible appliance.

Step 2: Purchase an eligible appliance

Purchase an eligible 4 star-rated or higher appliance or energy efficient hot water system. Eligible appliances include:

  • clothes washing machines and dryers (or combination washer/dryers)
  • dishwashers
  • refrigerators (or combination fridge/freezers – no stand-alone freezers)
  • air conditioners
  • heat pump hot water systems
  • solar hot water systems.

Air conditioners must be 4 star-rated (or higher) for cooling and compliant with AS/NZS 4755.1:2017 (Demand Response Standard). Check with your retailer and/or installer to make sure your air conditioner meets these requirements.

Remember to keep your receipt as you’ll need to provide proof of purchase when you submit your application. Your receipt must include the following information:

  • the name, address, and ABN or ACN of the entity that issued the receipt
  • the date the eligible appliance was purchased
  • a description of the eligible appliance (e.g., product code and name).

Step 3: Get a quote and install your appliance

Appliances that require installation (i.e. air conditioners, solar hot water systems and heat pump hot water systems) must be installed by an appropriately licenced tradesperson.

Once your appliance is installed, remember to keep your receipt, as you’ll need to provide proof of installation when you submit your application. Your receipt must include:

  • the date of installation
  • the address where the eligible appliance was installed
  • a description of the work involved in the installation
  • the name and licence number of the licensed contractor who carried out the work.

For an eligible hot water system, your installer is required to submit a notifiable work (Form 4) to the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC). You can submit the customer copy of this form as proof of installation if you’ve purchased your system separately.

You can check if your plumber or electrician holds a relevant licence by using the QBCC Plumbing and Drainage Licensee Register or the Electrical Safety Office’s Electrical Licence Search tool.

Step 4: Apply for the rebate

Complete your rebate application online at the QRIDA portal (use your myGovID to save time).

Supporting documentation

When submitting your application, you’ll need to upload:

  • two pieces of ID (driver’s license, Medicare card, passport etc.) if you’re not using your myGovID
  • a copy of the most recent council rates notice for your property (owner-occupiers) or your current residential tenancy agreement (renters)
  • receipts for the purchase of the appliance and, if applicable, its installation
  • your bank account details (a copy of your bank account statement, or a screenshot from your online banking clearly showing your name, bank account number and BSB).

If you’re applying for a low-income rebate, you will also need to upload a copy of your notice of assessment from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) for the 2022-23 financial year. If you don’t provide your notice of assessment, you will be asked to make a declaration that states either:

  • you have lodged a Return not Necessary with the ATO
    or
  • you are receiving a Government Pension/Benefit or are a self-funded retiree.

Please ensure you provide all supporting documentation (you can either scan documents or take a clear photo with your smart phone or digital camera).
